Description: |

Presents
central concepts related to parameters of human development through the life
span. Includes physical, social
emotional and mental development at the various stages of life. Considers the influence of culture as well
as individual differences. (This
course satisfies the Maryland State Department of Education professional
education course work in child or adolescent development.) |

Upon
completion of this course students will demonstrate 1.
Identify the major developmental psychologists and
their contributions to the study of human growth and development. 2.
Demonstrate an understanding of the theoretical
constructs and terminology used in developmental psychology; and Explain the developmental tasks of each
of the major stages of human development. |

Exams, papers, assignments, discussion board, films, & weekly
participation Note that 6 hours
of observation or service learning is a requirement for this course. Students
need to plan their time accordingly and should be prepared to provide
verification of these observations. |
How is this course organized: |

This
course is organized around the text.
Each week is similar in format including reading, quizzes, and
Muddiest Point comments. Additional
assignments are scheduled in the syllabus.
This is NOT a self-paced course.
The projects will be assigned on a weekly basis and will have
individual due dates. |

evaluate your progress in this course and decide if you need to make any adjustments
(additional study, tutoring, conference with instructor) to assure your

Evaluation
Methods: Note that 6 hours of observation or
service learning are required as part of this course in order to meet state
guidelines and help students connect theoretical and practical knowledge.
Failure to satisfactorily complete all observation hours and related
assignments will result in a grade of "I" (incomplete) for the
course, regardless of scores on other work. Completion of observation hours
is subject to the availability of appropriate placements and may be at the
discretion of the instructor. If observation-related work is not completed
satisfactorily in the prescribed time outlined in the college catalog, the
course grade will automatically become an "F." |

site regularly and participate on a weekly basis, engaging with their peers
