Course Description:

Presents central concepts related to parameters of human development through the life span. Includes physical, social, emotional, and mental development at various stages of life. Considers the influence of culture as well as individual differences.

 

 

 

Core Learning Outcomes:

 

Upon completion of this course students will demonstrate

1. Identify the major developmental psychologists and their contributions to the study of human growth and development.

2. Demonstrate an understanding of the theoretical constructs and terminology used in developmental psychology.

3. Explain the developmental tasks of each of the major stages of human development.

 

 

 

 Instructional Methods:

Exams, papers, assignments, discussion board, films, & weekly participation.   Note that an observation or service learning project of at least 6 hours is a requirement for this course. Students need to plan their time accordingly and should be prepared to provide verification of their time." 

 

 

 

 

 How the  course is organized:

This course is organized around the text.  Each week is similar in format including reading, quizzes, and Muddiest Point comments.  Additional assignments are scheduled in the syllabus.  This is NOT a self-paced course.  The projects will be assigned on a weekly basis and will have individual due dates.
